Gardens, Bouquets & Trusting What Grows
|
Hi Someone told me recently, “your brain is like a wildflower garden.” I love ideas. I went for ice cream with a friend and by the time we finished our cones I had designed three new flavors, written a novel about a young protagonist who moves to a new town and is ridiculed for her fashion sense, only to inspire a unique unfolding of events, and drew inspiration from the organized collection of colorful ice cream, sherbet, and sorbet to sort my closet in a way to maximize bursts of color. Inspiration is everywhere. "It's about allowing what's there to emerge." — Mary Reynolds, Irish Landscape Designer Wildflower GardensMy thoughts drifted to a film I watched a number of years ago called “Dare to Be Wild” about Irish Landscape Designer, Mary Reynolds. She was the youngest person to win a prestigious gardening award for her wildflower gardens, which at first were criticized, mocked, and misunderstood. Her goal was to guide the natural beauty already present in nature. She challenged the idea that beautiful gardens need to be planned, controlled, and arranged. She often speaks about moving from control to stewardship. From deciding exactly what should grow to paying attention to what is already trying to grow. How beautiful is that? I've been thinking about that idea a lot lately. How it applies to more than gardens. What if there are parts of ourselves that don't need to be forced, fixed, or organized quite so quickly? What if some things simply need space, attention, and time? Trust Your WisdomMore and more, I find myself interested in what helps people reconnect with themselves. What helps them fully step into their light. What creates enough space for them to trust their wisdom, express what matters, and navigate change without losing themselves in the process. Maybe there are things in your life that keep returning too. An idea. A longing. A creative spark. A question you can't quite shake. A part of yourself that feels especially alive when you give it attention. Perhaps those things aren't random. Perhaps they're already trying to grow. What does your wildflower bouquet look like? If someone comes to mind who might enjoy reconnecting with the wilder parts of themselves, I'd be grateful if you'd pass this along. |
